For the love of laminate call us biased but we re huge fans of laminate cabinet doors. Once the glue loosens under the laminate it can get worse. This can become an issue when a door or panel of your new laminate kitchen for example is damaged or discoloured down the track. Not just any laminate though specifically kitchen magic maintenance free laminate doors.

Vinyl has improved but has a short lifespan in comparison to melamine and will always have issues with heat. Problems occur when edges or corners of laminate lift slightly.

Melamine and laminate cabinets are often confused with thermofoil yet they are vastly different materials. Laminate is basically a surface material that is made from paper and resin being pressed together under heat. The problem is worsened by high humidity causing laminate to loosen at a faster rate. Because of the way laminate doors are made the seams of the underlying particle board which is brown may show which is often considered a drawback to using laminate. A two pack finish however allows the use of door styles with a feature insert. Melamine and laminate are thin brittle sheets that are glued to the surface. If i could do it over my choice would be to prime use the cabinet paint the milk paint will break the bank and at least two coats of either top coat.

Having worked in the kitchen industry for the last 8yrs melamine or laminate doors are the most cost effective and durable out there. However low pressure laminates cost less. Laminates are similar to tiles in the sense that they are produced in batches. The high pressure laminate hpl which is manufactured under 1400psi will give you a better product that will chip and crack less than a low pressure laminate.
